Last week I had the pleasure of attending and presenting at the BCVA Congress 2025 in Edinburgh and what a fantastic few days it was. The event was packed with insightful sessions, engaging discussions, and the wonderful buzz that comes from being surrounded by so many passionate and like-minded people.

Several key themes stood out across the conference.Sustainability and welfare were front and centre, with plenty of discussion on how to balance environmental responsibility, animal health, and food production. Antimicrobial stewardship and disease prevention were also major talking points, highlighting how innovation and collaboration can drive progress in these areas.

Another strong theme was the evolving role of the vet not just as a clinician, but as an advisor, data interpreter, and key part of a wider agricultural ecosystem. It was inspiring to see how technology, teamwork, and communication are reshaping what veterinary work can look like.

As always, the best part of the Congress was the people. It was great to reconnect with colleagues, meet new faces, and exchange ideas in such a friendly, open environment. Whether during a coffee break or at a poster session, those informal conversations often sparked the most valuable insights.

I came away from the event feeling energised and full of ideas from new ways to apply technology in practice to fresh approaches to herd health and stewardship. Most of all, I left with a real sense of optimism about the future of our profession.

Next year, I hope to return to the BCVA Congress as a showcase exhibitor, demonstrating our cattle dental gag and highlighting the importance of dental health in overall herd health. It would be a fantastic opportunity to help build a community of vets and producers who share a passion for improving cattle systems through better oral health and welfare practices.

A huge thank you to the BCVA team and all the speakers and delegates who made the event such a success. I’m already looking forward to next year’s Congress!
